The Young Scholar’s Workbook: Book I Vol. I is a fundraiser publication for The Young Scholar’s Book Club. 50% of the proceeds go to help keep mentoring and tutoring services free to students.  The workbook is composed of over 100 worksheet activities for Pre-K through 4th grade.  This workbook mirrors The Young Scholar’s Book Club Educational Program for Pre-K through 4th grade.  Some lessons are aligned with the Texas Essentials Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) curriculum.   

The workbook is divided into two sections.  Section I includes Language Arts, Reading, Math, Social Studies and Science activities for Pre-K to Kindergarten.  Section II includes Language Arts, Reading, Math, Social Studies, Science, and Writing activities for 1st through 4th grade. 

A table of contents is provided in Section I and Section II.  The page labeled “How To Use This Workbook” is before Section I. The directions prepare the user of this workbook for each activity.   Directions are also listed for parents, guardians and educators. 

The activities are educational, fun and challenging.  The author strives to educate, encourage, and enlighten the “Young Scholar” through the information presented in this workbook. 

The Young Scholar’s Book Club Educational Program runs from August to May each year.  In June and July, members are involved in workshops and other activities.  The educational program can be accessed on the internet at www.tysbookclub.org

Brenda Diann Johnson

About the Author……..

Brenda Diann Johnson was born in Dallas, Texas on September 14, 1970 to Robert Johnson and Thelma Byrd.  She is the oldest of five children.  She has a brother, sister, and two half brothers. 

Brenda received her education from the Dallas and Wharton, Texas school systems.  She graduated from Government, Law, and Law Enforcement Magnet High School in Dallas.  She also received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications (Broadcast News) from UTA in Arlington, Texas.  She has her Texas license in Life, Health, Accident & HMO insurance.   Brenda is also an experienced educator who has taught and tutored Pre-K through College.  

Today, Brenda is the founder of The Young Scholar’s Book Club, ASWIFTT Writer’s Guild, ASWIFTT Jr. Writer’s Guild, ASWIFTT PUBLISHING, LLC which is the parent company of ASWIFTT RADIO, The ASWIFTT JOURNAL  & ASWIFTT TELEVISION.  She is also the author of How Did I Get Into This Mess? “You Compromised, Saith the Lord.”

From 2001 to 2002, Brenda served as the chairperson for an entrepreneur group called STEP (Sowing Toward Everlasting Prosperity) and as the Potter’s House Center Leader for the Plan Fund. 

Brenda has served as a Sunday school teacher since age 18.  She has faithfully served at Tabernacle Baptist Church, Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, and Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church.  She was also a member of the Potter’s House. 

In the community, Brenda has served as a volunteer to organizations that help AIDS, HIV, and Syphilis patients. Brenda currently lives in the Dallas/Fort Worth area with her family.
